Student Work
This page features examples from various student projects. Under each recording or video you will find a brief explanation of the assessment. As a music educator I am a strong believer in the value of project based learning to develop life-long learning and musical skills. Each project found below is an example of group project learning in which students have developed their own performance developing leadership, time management and team working skills.
Key Stage 3
Year 8 performance of their composition based on themes and motifs from Carmen.

A second take on the same assessment!

|
Year 9 performance assessment in which students chose their own song to recreate using knowledge gained over the Key Stage 3 curriculum.
|
|
Year 9 performances of their composition based on Stravinsky. Students explored additive rhythm, dissonance and motif through the composition.
Key Stage 4- GCSE Music
|
|
Revision video created by a year 10 GCSE student in order to revise key facts from a set work studied for their listening examination.
As part of their GCSE students must understand a range of facts and be able to apply these aurally to provided stimulus, as part of this students were set a challenge to create revision videos for each other in preparation for the end of year examination. |
Solo performance recorded by a year 10 GCSE student as part of his performance coursework.
I have included this example due to the level of confidence and musicality portrayed by this student. The performance was given at a solo recital evening featuring students aged 5 and up. The above performance was last on the programme for the evening and provided fabulous inspiration for our younger students. |
AP Music Theory
Recording created by AP Music Theory students exploring the recording and editing capabilities of new software (Logic Pro). I have chosen to include this project to showcase the exploration these students have done vocally. Both students were accomplished singers before entering the AP course, however the course has given them the ability to further explore harmony and arrangement in greater depth.
More can be found out about each of the schemes of learning these projects were apart of here.
