Showcase
This page features examples of completed coursework for Michigan State University as part of my Master in Education.
These showcase assessments have been chosen to highlight my own journey as a learner and my exploration of concepts, tools and pedagogy, all of which have been used to inform my instruction and teaching as an educator.
I have chosen to separate my example work into three headings based on the type of artifact presented:
Projects
Interdisciplinary work which features design work, websites, visuals and on occasion, a number of assignments culminated into one project.
Writings
Featuring essays and written assessments.
Videos
Featuring video explanations and/or screen casts.

Projects
GCSE Music Revision WebsiteThis project was created as a culmination of the exploration of teaching online, particularly new literacy tools. The site was designed as a revision site for my GCSE students and has been an ongoing development since its submission for assessment. The original assessment was created for "AOS1" but has since expanded to all areas of the GCSE course. It features interactive assessments, text, video, image and hyperlinked resources to appeal to all types of learners and has been very well received by my students.

Digital Assessment InfographicThe aim of this project was to explain the benefits of portfolios in music to other teaching professionals. It gives step by steps ideas into how to create a portfolio and includes options (pros and cons) for varying tools. I have included this project as it was my first venture into the creation of an infographic and at the time I found the assessment quite challenging. I struggled with the artistic element of the assessment and the level of detail needed by readers. You can read more about my learning process for this assessment here and how I learnt from these challenges.

Budget for Teacher LearningMy "year-long" budget for teacher learning was the middle assessment for my most challenging class. I would have loved to include more projects from this series of assessments, however the project revolved around a review of a real workplace therefore the information held within the review and recommendations would breach privacy and confidentiality. As such I have chosen to showcase this budget based upon the review and findings.

Learning PortfolioThis example is a showcase of work completed exploring electronic assessment. The project culminated in a portfolio of work and features a number of individual assessments included on this page. I have included the full assessment as this was my first exploration into creating a portfolio and blog, therefore it shows my development to the creation of this website.

Twitter AssignmentThis assignment has been one of the most memorable I have completed during my MAED, the task was to write twitter "responses" to a number of scenarios, with each tweet written in a different leadership style. The assessment was incredibly interesting and really made me get into the mind of each leadership style, this would definitely be a assessment I would use with students in order to synthesise their knowledge of a concept.

Writings
Throughout this paper I explore the unique career development of a selection of individuals from a cross sectional of employments fields and backgrounds. I explore their choices, reasoning and how their development relates to research into adult learners and lifelong education. I have chosen this paper as it was one which began to reshape my future career ideas, shifting my thinking from teacher training to professional development in a wider sense.

"Hamlet's Blackberry" and "Digital Nation" are two resources which have recurred frequently throughout my masters and have influenced my thinking on the use and role of technology, not only in education but my own life. The two papers above are examples of a number of assessments through which I discovered the importance of these pillars of research. The papers explore my shift in thinking and pose a number of questions I still have in this area. In addition, I also reflect upon my current and future use of technology in the classroom and explore how technology developments, current research and my own changing views may impact this.

Classroom Management System (CMS) ScreencastFollowing an evaluation and overview of various CMS', this screencast provides a walk through of an example classroom assessment using the features of Google Classroom. I chose to expand upon a formal assessment for GCSE music to include an outlet for students to review and evaluate their work and understanding, and hone the way in which formal feedback is given to students.

Assessment in Minecraft ScreencastThis screencast provides a walk through of a sample assessment using Minecraft. Prior to this assessment I had only used Minecraft once before, although I had observed many students using the gaming software. I explored the use of Minecraft to assess understanding of form and structure in music for S8 (grade 7) students. My screencast not only explains the assessment but provides a justification of its value to my curriculum.
